Your NJ HIC registration — and the compliance bond attached to it — expires on March 31. Renewal applications open in January. You have roughly 90 days each year to get it done.

- March 31: Expiration deadline for current registrations
- April 1+: Lapsed licenses — stop work until reinstated
What Happens If You Miss It?
If your bond lapses on April 1:
- Your HIC registration is no longer valid
- You cannot legally perform home improvement work in NJ
- Reinstatement requires a new bond plus late fees

- $50,000 bond: $250/year — for contracts over $120K or annual volume over $750K
